Period Pantry Mural at Wycoff-Bond Garden
At the Wyckoff-Bond Community Garden in Carroll Gardens, a meaningful new mural now brings together art, care, and community. The Brooklyn Emerging Mural Artists Coalition (BEMAC) was invited to paint the Period Dignity Project's period pantry, a grassroots resource that provides free period products to neighbors in need.
Founded by Naomi Giancola, the Period Dignity Project helps make essential menstrual products more accessible while reducing stigma around menstruation. To celebrate that mission, Vic Ingram, BEMAC founder and muralist, created a mural that transforms the pantry into both a practical community resource and a public work of art.
The mural is designed to weave together the natural beauty of the garden with symbolism tied to the menstrual cycle. Lush plant life flows across the surface, connecting the pantry visually to its garden setting, while hibiscus and lotus flowers serve as symbols of rebirth, renewal, and transformation. The result is a vibrant piece that honors both the vitality of the surrounding landscape and the purpose of the pantry
