Day 1 of Community Workshops Complete

Today marked the kick-off of our community mural programming at the Glenmore location of the Providence House network of supportive housing.

Led by teaching artist Nicole Bowden, the workshop invited staff and residents to participate in brainstorming ideas for an upcoming mural installation in the children’s playroom on the first floor of the building.

All of the participants in the workshop received their own sketchbooks to draw out their ideas. The first part of the workshop involved a group discussion over the mural’s proposed themes. Using collage materials, electronic devices and art supplies to collect images and sketch out concepts for the mural based on the themes the group discussed.

Next, a large roll of paper was rolled across the table so that the participants could collaboratively brainstorm by drawing out their ideas, cutting out sketches from their sketchbooks, and applying stickers to combine everyone’s concepts into a collective composition that will form the basis of Nicole’s design proposal for the mural.

Next week’s workshop will function as a town hall in which Nicole will share her design proposal with the group.
