“Peace and Refreshment” by James Wolf

The mural on the autonomous garden in Crown Heights was completed this past week.

After first laying down the vibrant blue background on the wood surface, James Wolf returned to the site over the course of several days to sketch his design and then finally to add the leaves and flower details for the Hibiscus flower and olive branches. The result is an eye catching composition of saturated colors, punctuated by the bright green of the native plants bursting from the garden.

The design, conceptualized by Cody Israel, depicts an interlocking garland of Hibiscus flowers and olive branches to represent solidarity in ecological struggle between Haiti and Palestine.

The mural can be seen on Bergen Street in Crown Heights, between Bedford and Franklin Avenue.
